Four interlocking rings of alchemical sigils, every one geared to its neighbour.
Above the alchemist's workbench hangs a great astrolabe of blued steel and gold. Four rings of sigils nest inside one another, linked in a loop of fine gears so that no ring turns alone.
Every ring you turn sets its neighbour turning. The whole instrument ticks like a clock.
