The agreement between us

Terms of Service

Effective 1 September 2026 · Last updated 1 September 2026

These Terms govern your use of Bookwyrm, including its public rules and community pages, account tools, campaigns, live-session features, creator workspaces, marketplace, and related services. By creating an account, publishing content, or buying through Bookwyrm, you agree to them.

1. Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement. Give accurate account information, keep your sign-in methods secure, and tell us through the contact form if you believe the account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless it results from a failure on our side.

2. The service

Bookwyrm helps people read and author tabletop game material, build characters, organise campaigns, run sessions, publish work, and offer work to others. Features may change as the product develops. We will not deliberately remove access to purchased content or materially reduce a paid service without a reasonable operational, legal, or safety reason and appropriate notice where practical.

3. Your content and permissions

You keep ownership of content you create. You give Bookwyrm a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, copy, process, format, display, distribute, and back up that content only as needed to operate the visibility, collaboration, campaign-sharing, publishing, and sales choices you make.

You must have the rights needed for anything you upload or publish. Do not publish unlawful material, another person’s private information without permission, malware, deceptive listings, or content that infringes copyright, trade marks, privacy, publicity, or other rights. Public work can be indexed, cached, linked, and copied by third parties; removing it from Bookwyrm cannot recall copies already made elsewhere.

4. Rules content and third-party material

Some rules material is provided under open licences and is identified with its source and applicable licence. Product names, game systems, creator work, links, and third-party services remain subject to their respective owners’ rights and terms. Access through Bookwyrm does not grant rights beyond the licence shown for that material.

5. Creators, products, and marketplace sales

A creator chooses what to publish, whether it is free or paid, and the licence offered to buyers. For paid sales, the creator’s connected Stripe account is the merchant of record and the seller identified for the transaction. Bookwyrm provides the storefront, checkout integration, access delivery, and marketplace administration, and may deduct the clearly disclosed platform fee. Stripe processes payment and seller onboarding under its own terms.

Creators must describe products accurately, honour the licence offered, maintain the rights needed to sell them, handle applicable tax or business obligations assigned to the seller, and cooperate with valid support, refund, dispute, and rights-holder requests.

6. Prices, subscriptions, gifts, and refunds

Prices, billing interval, platform fees, tax treatment, and included content are shown before checkout. Subscriptions renew until cancelled through the available account or Stripe controls. Cancellation stops future renewal and normally leaves access available through the paid period.

Digital refund requests made within 14 days may be automatically approved where the content has not been materially consumed; other requests receive human review. Mandatory consumer rights still apply. Approved refunds may revoke product access, with a short read-only campaign grace period where Bookwyrm can provide one safely. Gift eligibility, delivery timing, and redemption restrictions are shown during purchase.

7. AI-assisted features

AI output is a draft, not a statement of fact, legal advice, or a substitute for your judgement. You are responsible for reviewing it before publication or play and for ensuring the finished work is lawful and accurate. Bookwyrm sends content to an AI provider only when you invoke an AI feature and only to provide that request.

8. Recording, transcription, and live sessions

Recording and transcription require the explicit consent flow shown to participants. A visible recording state must remain active while capture continues. Do not bypass consent, secretly record another person, or use session tools in a way that violates applicable law or table agreements.

9. Community conduct, moderation, and appeals

Do not harass, threaten, exploit, impersonate, defraud, spam, manipulate reviews, evade access controls, or use Bookwyrm to facilitate abuse. We may limit visibility, unpublish or remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or preserve evidence where reasonably needed for safety, rights enforcement, legal compliance, or service integrity. We aim to make action proportionate and explain it unless doing so would create risk or breach an obligation. You may appeal through the safety and abuse route.

10. Account closure

You can request an export and schedule deletion from account settings. Bookwyrm currently provides a 14-day restoration window before irreversible deletion begins. Team-owned and publicly published work may need an ownership transfer or separate publication decision. Purchases and records required for tax, payment, fraud, dispute, or legal purposes may be retained or anonymised as described in the Privacy Policy.

11. Availability and responsibility

We work to keep Bookwyrm available and protect stored work, but internet services can fail. Keep independent copies of material you cannot afford to lose. To the extent permitted by law, Bookwyrm is provided without a guarantee that every feature will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. We will give reasonable notice of material changes through the service or account email where practical. Continued use after the effective date means the updated Terms apply.

Questions, copyright notices, or legal concerns should use the legal and copyright contact route.
