AB1 Why Bookwyrm exists

The game should feel connected before the tools do.

I built Bookwyrm after years of carrying the same ideas between rule sites, documents, campaign tools, maps, character sheets and publishing platforms. The content was connected in my head. The software kept pulling it apart.

AB2 Where it started

Two sides of one problem.

When I looked for something a creator had made, I often had to piece it together from a post, a storefront listing and a file tucked away somewhere else. I wanted one place to find their work, read it and use it at the table.

Running a game gave me the same problem from the other side. I had too many DM tools open just to prepare a session and keep it moving. I wanted the notes, maps, rules and characters to work together instead of making me carry information between tabs.

AB3 The thread

Build around the work, not the database.

A creature is not just a record in a compendium. It might begin as a note, become an encounter, appear on a map, roll initiative at the table, and later become part of a published adventure. A character has the same kind of life: choices become a sheet, the sheet joins a campaign, and the campaign gives every rule and resource its context.

Bookwyrm is built around that thread. Author once, keep the identity of the work intact, and let each presentation serve the moment without making you rebuild it.

AB4 What Bookwyrm is protecting

Useful from the first idea to somebody else's table.

A complete free foundation
Core rules, personal authoring, campaigns, characters and play tools should be a useful product on their own, with no marketplace purchase required.
Creators keep ownership
Publishing should extend the work rather than take it over. Creators choose what is public, what is free, and what they sell.
Assistance stays optional
Automation and AI should remove bookkeeping or help with a draft, and leave the choices, rulings and editorial responsibility with people.
Public work deserves permanence
Published content should have a stable identity, clear provenance, useful links and pages readers can return to, rather than vanishing into an activity feed.

AB5 The direction

One durable home, improved a table at a time.

The aim is not to collect every possible tool. It is to make the journeys that matter, reading, creating, preparing, playing and publishing, feel like parts of the same place, and to keep sharpening them without losing the work people have already trusted to Bookwyrm.
