A cylinder of yellowed bone, five rings carved with letters, found clasped in a skeletal hand.
The cryptex is carved from a single thigh bone and bound with tarnished silver. The rings turn stiffly, as if reluctant, and the end caps are sealed with old wax.
The fingers had to be pried loose one by one.
