Eight runes sing faster every round. The gauntlet only opens for a perfect memory.
An arena floor inlaid with eight bronze-rimmed runes, one for each of the old trials. When a champion steps onto the sand, the runes play a war-song, faster and longer with every round. One wrong step and the gauntlet begins again.
The runes kindle like coals, and the first note of the war-song rings across the sand.
